The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
...but those things which are revealed
Those things which are “revealed” sounds like God keeps some things hidden - which should not be surprising because that is exactly what Jesus said when He talked of things the Holy Spirit will “make known” to His apostles (John 16:15). They didn’t have choice, if something is made known to them, they know it. There are other passages where Jesus talked of things hidden or revealed to certain people:
John 16:15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
Matthew 11:27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
There are several more and I’ve written on all of following: Matthew 16:17, Luke 10:21, Luke 10:22, Luke 18:31-34, John 8:43, John 8:47, John 17:6. It should not be surprising that other writers of the New Testament also said the same thing. Paul in several of his letters wrote about it:
Romans 10:20 And Isaiah boldly says, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”
Again, there are several more and I’ve written on all of following: 2 Corinthians 4:4, Galatians 1:15-16, Galatians 3:23, Ephesians 1:9, Ephesians 3:4-5, Ephesians 3:9, Colossians 1:25-26. Peter and John also wrote of the same thing:
1 Peter 1:20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
John 12:38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
I believe I’ve quoted enough of God’s Word to prove beyond any doubt that there are truths that are hidden from men that God reveals when He is ready and to whom He wants the revelation to occur. Moving on with the original Scripture from Deuteronomy above:
...but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever...
The things revealed by God to His chosen people, the Elect, the Saints of God - belong to who? Yes, this passage is from the Old Testament and it was spoken to the Israelites. However, the principle of the revealed truths of God belonging to a people is the same today as it always has been. Israel is chosen for service, and God’s Elect are chosen for salvation. The truths revealed to us belong to us and can never be taken away.
Just as with His Elect who can't believe until God GIVES belief (Philippians 1:29), the Arminian can’t believe His sovereignty in Election until God reveals it to him (Luke 10:22), God must open his mind to understand (Luke 24:45). In the meantime, He has kept it hidden from him (Luke 10:21).
