Bible Truth #40 - Matthew 11:25-27

25  At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
26  Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
27  “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

...because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children
There it is again! Why would God hide these things from the wise and the learned and reveal them to little children?
Because He knew their hearts? NO! God knows (noun) and forms the heart of EVERY man (Psalm 33:15), but He foreknew (verb) our heart, the hearts of the Elect, those He chose. (Romans 8:29)
Because they were wicked? Well, we were all wicked and sinners (because of the sinful nature) before God saved us, even little children, babies, and the unborn. So the answer is NO again.
So why would God hide these things from some and reveal them to others? Don’t know? The answer is easy - read verse 26. God hid things from some and revealed them to others simply for His good pleasure. It’s impossible to deny the explanation when it is in the very next verse.

Then the “coup de grace” is the last phrase of verse 27 - “... and those to whom the Son CHOOSES to reveal Him.” What? The Son chooses some and not others? That’s right! And know this: only AFTER God’s choice in working in a lost person - someone chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), will that lost person believe. Why? Because those chosen are the only ones God does a work in (John 6:29). And please understand - you can’t say that Jesus chooses to reveal Him (the Father) to those who accept Him as Savior. The lost man can’t accept or believe or do anything else when Truth hasn’t been revealed to him in the first place. The FIRST thing that occurs is God quickening the dead spirit in a lost man and working in him to MAKE him believe. (John 6:29, Philippians 2:13)

Again, the bottom line is the Bible says a lost person will NOT come into the Light because he hates the Light (John 3:20), he is at enmity with God and can’t please Him (Romans 8:7-8), and he CAN’T understand the things from the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14). That is Bible and can’t be denied. Since all that is true, how can a lost person believe without God FIRST working in him? How can he accept something he hates? How can he repent from something he loves (darkness)? The answer to all of course is - he can’t... God saves a man first, quickens his dead spirit, changing his nature. We become children of God NOT by human decision. (John 1:13)

Consider the following illustration: imagine God walking through a cemetery with a glass of the Living Water, announcing to all present that all they have to do is to reach up and take a sip and they will be released from the captivity of death. But no one will do it, no one can do it, no one is able to do it, because they’re all dead. Every single one is DEAD! That is why God chooses some to save, reaches down and quickens their dead spirit and now that they’re alive, the formerly dead spirit now realizes he is dying of thirst and is now ABLE to drink from the Living Waters - and drink he WILL! (John 6:37)

Praise God for His Grace and Mercy!!!
