Bible Truth #249 - John 16:12-15

12  "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.
13  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
14  He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
15  All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

The Spirit will take from what is Christ’s and make it known to you... make it known to who? Make it known to the apostles. And until it is made known to them (and anyone else) it will remain unknown. This perfectly reconciles with 1 Corinthians 2:14 where Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, writes that the man without the Spirit (i.e. a lost man) does not accept the things from the Spirit of God, no ifs, ands, or buts. The Arminian will say that the Holy Spirit MAKES it known to a lost man so he can decide whether to accept the free gift of salvation or not. Sorry, that contradicts the plain language of the Word of God in 1 Corinthians 2:14. The lost man will not accept ANYTHING from the Holy Spirit.

Just as even the apostles did not understand the Scriptures and how they applied to Jesus until AFTER His resurrection (Luke 24:45), no man, saved or not, will EVER understand ANYTHING until God reveals it to him. This is one reason why a lost man will not accept anything from the Holy Spirit, and why a saved man will know ONLY what God wants him to know.

Be persuasive but kind when you discuss doctrine with other believers because they know only what God wants them to know. If they don’t see what you see, don’t blame them. God has decided that they are not ready for it, and they may never be ready for it. But it’s God’s decision, God gives to each believer the measure of faith He wants him to have (Romans 12:3) regardless of what that man may desire. One other thing to consider: do you think you know the whole Truth? I don’t - but I’m confident in what IDO know.

One is, I KNOW we become children of God not by human decision (John 1:13).
