8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
I wrote about Romans 8:8 first in Bible Truth #7 - and MANY times since - but I included it here to provide a little more of the context of the passage than verse 9 alone.
Verse 9 is more information and proof that there is no such thing as a free will. Verse 9 also supports and is supported by Philippians 2:13. To what am I referring? God tells us through Paul that we are controlled by the Spirit. We are not controlled by the Holy Spirit only when we’re obedient. We are not controlled by the Holy Spirit only when we are in God’s will. We are controlled by the Holy Spirit, period.
As God tells us in Philippians 2:13, He is working in us to will and to do according to His good pleasure. So tell me where is man’s free will?
God glorifies EVERY man He calls (Romans 8:30) and ONLY those He calls.
