Bible Truth #296 - 1 John 4:14

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

Does the Father fail at anything He sets out to do? What about the Son? Does Jesus fail at anything He sets out to do? Can the creature thwart the plan of God? (Isaiah 14:27)

The answer to all of these is no. But the Arminian will grasp at this verse and say that Jesus is the Savior of the World but then not register, nor reconcile, the blaring contradiction in his thought process. Here, as everywhere else that John uses the term “world,” he is referring to both Jews and Gentiles, not Jews alone. He is not referring to every single person who has ever lived. For a more thorough explanation, please see Bible Truth #66.

One reason that Arminians disagree may be that they see Savior as simply one of the titles of Jesus. I see it as both a title AND a verb, a word that connotes action taken. If there is a man in Hell it is absolutely because Jesus is NOT his Savior. If the Arminian truly believes Jesus is the Savior of the world, meaning every single man, woman, boy and girl, then Jesus failed because there are people He wanted to save but who are in Hell today. That is not the omnipotent Savior in Whom I believe.

Jesus came to seek and save each and every person God chose and no one can thwart His plan to do exactly that.
