3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
No soldier of the cross should entangle himself with the affairs of this life. Why? So he can please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. Can someone just join God’s Army? Nope. They have to be chosen.
God does not choose everybody (Matthew 22:14) nor does He call everybody (1 Corinthians 1:26). Salvation rests entirely upon God. I went into a lot more detail in Bible Truth #176 and do not want to repeat it here. In John 15:16 we see Jesus again saying not only did He choose His followers (and still does), He clearly stated, “You did not choose me.”
Bottom Line - God does the choosing and He chooses few.
