Bible Truth #288 - Mark 10:45

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

This is just one of the many verses that clearly supports the fact that Jesus died to redeem the Elect, the church (Ephesians 5:25), those God chose in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). He shed His blood for the redemption of many, not every (Mark 14:24). Some will say there are places in the Bible where many is used and it really means all. An example is Romans 5:15. I already wrote about that passage in Bible Truth #216 - “many” and “all” are not interchangeable.

Think about this - if Jesus shed His Blood and died to redeem EVERY man, woman, boy, or girl who ever lived, you either have to believe that NO ONE is going to the Lake of Fire; or that the Blood Jesus shed is not enough.

Both of those beliefs are false. Jesus said while on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30) and the way I understand English, this means there is nothing else to be done. God has already chosen who would be saved. He did that before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). By His death on the cross, Jesus OBTAINED salvation for His Elect (Hebrews 9:12) and His Elect alone. He did not make it “available” for anyone.

So when Jesus said He gave His life as a ransom for many, He meant exactly what He said.

We become children of God NOT by human decision (John 1:13).
