Bible Truth #293 - 1 Peter 1:15

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do

I would first like to establish to whom Peter was writing. According to verse 1 of the same chapter he was writing to God’s Elect, generally known as Christians - believers in Jesus Christ.

Then in verse 15 he writes Just as He who has called you... I want to focus on the word called as Peter so clearly writes that the recipients of his letter are called. If every man who ever lived was called then why would Peter use that term? The truth is that God does NOT call everyone (1 Corinthians 1:26).

According to Romans 8:29-30 God justifies and glorifies every single person He calls, and Peter acknowledges that fact here in that he identifies God’s Elect as being called.

As not every man is drawn to Christ (John 6:44), neither is every man called.
