Bible Truth #119 - Matthew 22:32

29  Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
30  At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
31  But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you,
32  ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
33  When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

This is Jesus' reply after the Sadducees asked him the question about the seven brothers all marrying the same woman after each in succession, starting with the oldest, died with no children. Whose wife would she be in the resurrection? But I want to focus on verse 32 - He is the God of the living but God the Father is not the God of the dead? Who are the dead? I submit that it is those who aren’t saved and those who were not chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.

Since Jesus said that He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, He is referring to all those who are spiritually alive. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob ARE certainly physically dead but they are spiritually very much alive. So it is clear Jesus is referring to the Father being the God of those who are spiritually alive and NOT the God of those spiritually dead, i.e. the lost, those NOT chosen.

Let that sink in, Jesus’ own words... He is NOT the God of the dead. The world at this very moment is full of spiritually dead people. Every lost person on the planet at this moment is spiritually dead. As Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:1, 2:5, and Colossians 2:13, before God saved us we were dead.

He is not the God of the DEAD, but of the living.

Jesus raises up EVERY man God draws (John 6:44), NOT every man who accepts the drawing.
