Bible Truth #100 - 1 Peter 1:1-2

1  Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,
2  who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

Some use these verses to show how God looks down through the corridors of time and sees who will choose Him and then He chooses them. This is absolutely ludicrous and does NOT reconcile with the rest of God’s Word - some of which I have already written about. Defined in Bible Truth #4, God foreknew people; in this passage God has foreknowledge of EVENTS to come because He ordained them to occur! (Psalm 37:23; Proverbs 16:9, 19:21, 20:24; Isaiah 14:2746:10Jeremiah 10:23, 29:11; Philippians 2:13) As King David said in Psalm 139:16, all of the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. That is true for each one of us, Elect or not.

And please don’t forget how Peter started his letter - To God’s Elect... This letter was written to a specific group of people, i.e. Christians. It was not written to the world, and it was not written to the lost. It was written to Christians.

Praise His Holy NAME!!! TO HIM BE THE GLORY!!!

Bottom Line: God has foreknowledge of future events because he ordained or appointed them to occur, including the plan of quickening the dead spirits in those whom He chose in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). Without God sovereignly quickening his spirit, a lost man will NEVER understand (1 Corinthians 2:14), will never believe (John 6:29), and will never repent (2 Timothy 2:25). If a man is not chosen, God will keep the Truth hidden from him (Luke 10:21).
