Bible Truth #56 - John 3:3; 6:40

3:3  In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

6:40  For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

First of all, Jesus says in 3:3 that no one, there are no exceptions here whatsoever, NO ONE can see the kingdom of God UNLESS he is born again. God has to quicken the dead spirit in man BEFORE he can see the kingdom of God. He has to be born again BEFORE He can understand the things from the Holy Spirit (sound familiar? - 1 Corinthians 2:14) In other words, he has to be born again BEFORE he can see the kingdom of God, hear from the kingdom of God, feel the kingdom of God in his spirit, know the kingdom of God, or do anything else associated with the kingdom of God. Born again comes first, BEFORE everything else.

Then in John 6:40 Jesus says that His Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him SHALL have eternal life. But according to John 3:3 no one can see the kingdom of God, which obviously includes the Son of God, unless he is born again. Hmmmm, no one can look to the Son, or even see the Son unless he is born again. Why? Because a lost man can’t look to the Son if he can’t see Him. And if a lost man can’t see Him, how can he believe in Him?

So it is clear, a man MUST be born again BEFORE he can see the kingdom of God (v3), and by extension BEFORE he can look to the Son (v40), and in conclusion, BEFORE He can believe in him.

Born again comes first, and God does it without man getting involved at all. It’s called MONERGISM.

We become children of God NOT by human decision (John 1:13).
