Bible Truth #102 - Ephesians 2:10

Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

This might be one of the shortest I’ve written. I want to point out three things:

- We are HIS workmanship, not our own. God did it all without any help from us.

- We were created in Christ Jesus to do good works - we can’t create ourselves in Christ, God created us in Christ

- God BEFORE ordained the good works we are to do. When? Well since we were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), one should easily understand that was the point at which God also ordained (appointed) the good works. And since God had ordained these works for us BEFORE time began, that was obviously “His plan” to which Scripture refers. He wouldn’t ordain good works for us unless He chose us.

Since the lost can’t please God (Romans 8:8), He certainly wouldn’t ordain good works for them, i.e. those He DIDN’T choose. Can God ordain something to transpire and then that thing not occur? If so then God isn’t God. God before ordained that we should walk in good works and if a man who claims Christ is not walking in good works he’s as lost as a duck in a desert and needs to get saved!

God glorifies EVERY man He calls (Romans 8:30) and ONLY those He calls.
