Deuteronomy 7:6-8
6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.
7 The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
8 But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
This was part of God’s instruction to Moses and how he was to instruct the Israelites to live. But in these verses He clearly lays out the fact that He chose them. Was God being unfair in choosing the Israelites over all the other nations? Men may think so but God is never unfair, never evil, and always working everything together for good. God is always right and anyone who may think God did something bad, or unfair, needs to change their definition of fairness. God is just (Isaiah 45:21).
But the kicker is verse 8 where God says He chose them because He loved them. Didn’t God love the Egyptians too? Nope. God loves only His Chosen, and His Elect. It is clear in Psalm 5:5 and Psalm 11:5 that God hates the workers of iniquity, the wicked, and those who love violence. Since we know history and what God did to the Egyptians and their gods, it’s pretty clear to me that God chose the Israelites and NOT the Egyptians for no reason we can understand. Just like He chose Abram over every other man alive, He chose Isaac over Ishmael, and He chose Jacob over Esau. And He even gives us a reason He chose Jacob over Esau - so that His purpose in Election would stand, not of works, but of Him Who calls (Romans 9:11).
According to the Bible, He works the same way today. After all, He IS immutable. The Elect were chosen in Christ BEFORE the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). Christ did not come to make salvation “available” to all men, He has OBTAINED eternal redemption (Bible Truth #90) for each and every one of His Elect. He did not OBTAIN salvation for those He has not chosen because this too was His good pleasure. From the beginning they were created as vessels of dishonor (Romans 9:21-22). Just as He rose Pharaoh up for the very purpose of squashing him like a bug. (Exodus 9:16)
God is sovereign, He chose some, He did not choose others. Some (His Elect) receive grace and mercy, those not chosen get justice. NO ONE GETS INJUSTICE.
We become children of God NOT by human decision. (John 1:13)
