Bible Truth #210 - Ephesians 6:19-20

19  Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
20  for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Here we have an example of a prayer request from Paul, who some argue was the greatest Christian ever, asking that God would give him words so that he would fearlessly preach the Gospel. Paul is clearly acknowledging the fact that even though his heart is strong and he WANTS to preach the Gospel fearlessly, there is a possibility that God would not give him words to preach effectively, or even preach at all.

Just as when the Holy Spirit prevented him from preaching in the province of Asia (Acts 16:6), he knew that God could stop him from preaching to certain people. Why do you think that is?

Answer - Because God is sovereign and because He has already chosen a bride for His Son. Without God working in a situation, either by NOT opening the heart of a lost man as He DID open Lydia's heart (Acts 16:14), or by simply NOT giving words to Paul, He sovereignly acts in certain circumstances to KEEP LOST PEOPLE LOST.

We become children of God not by HUMAN decision (John 1:13).
