Bible Truth #206 - James 4:5

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?

Who caused the Spirit to live in us? God did, not us. Remember, when we were lost we hated God (John 3:20), we were at enmity with Him (Romans 8:7), and we could NOT please Him in the least (Romans 8:8). Everything we did was sin and a stench to God (Romans 14:23). ALL unrighteousness is sin and since no one is righteous, everything a lost person does is unrighteousness, i.e. SIN (Bible Truth #203).

IF it were possible, and it is not, but if it were possible that a lost man could “accept” Christ and “ask Him into his heart,” that would be the “cause” for salvation according to the Arminian - a requirement of man before God saves, i.e. a “work.” But Ephesians 2:9 says we are saved “...not of works lest any man should boast.” But this verse above clearly says that God caused the Spirit to live in us, we didn’t do it, nor did we take any action to cause God to do it. (Titus 3:5)

We become children of God not by HUMAN decision (John 1:13).
