Bible Truth #175 - Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

This passage is very simple... The point I want to bring up is that there is no exception hinted in this Scripture or anywhere else that man has control over his destiny. God has a purpose for every soul who ever lived or will live and man is not going to change nor thwart the Sovereign Creator’s plan (Isaiah 14:27). God has it rigged!

Those who are Arminian in their soteriology believe that a lost man can change his heart, believe in Jesus and accept God’s free gift of salvation. But even if I agree with the premise, and I DON’T, this passage states without equivocation that the plans of a man’s heart mean nothing, the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

If it was God’s purpose that every man ever born be saved, they would be. If it was God’s purpose that all those He chose in Christ be saved (and it is), they will be. This is why Christ said, All that the Father gives me will come to Me... (John 6:37) and why Peter wrote that God "is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any [of us] should perish, but that all [of us] should come to repentance." - us meaning God's Elect. (2 Peter 3:9).
