Bible Truth #244 - John 1:1-5

1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2  He was with God in the beginning.
3  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4  In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5  The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Every Christian who is familiar with the Gospel of John knows this passage. Please look at and consider the last verse, verse 5. The Light (Jesus) shines in the darkness (the lost in the World), but the darkness has not understood it. The world is full of lost people and the Gospel clearly states right here that lost men have not, do not, will not, understand It.

This is so powerful and profound that it bears repeating. The darkness (lost man) not only will not understand the Light, but HAS NOT understood It - that’s past tense. It has already been decreed by the Father. A lost man does not have the ability to understand it and that Truth is confirmed and supported by 1 Corinthians 2:14, a man without the Spirit (a lost man) will never understand anything from God. If the lost man has not understood the Light, he will NOT come into It, which is exactly what Jesus said in John 3:20.

Since this is all TRUE, how can anyone claim that a lost man is saved by coming into the Light, i.e. accepting Jesus as his Savior? The Gospel clearly says he won’t do it.

Bottom Line - God saves a man by quickening his dead spirit through faith, the faith God gives him (Romans 12:3, Ephesians 2:8). God simultaneously gives him belief (John 6:29, Philippians 1:29), and repentance (2 Timothy 2:25). Now that man WILL come into the Light, no ifs, ands, or buts (John 6:37).
