Bible Truth #233 - Romans 8:13-14

13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Those who are led by the Spirit of God ARE Sons of God. The emphasis is on the word “ARE,” present tense. The clear implication is that everyone NOT led by the Spirit of God are NOT sons of God, but then again, that’s obvious. So tell me, how can a man who is lost, who is NOT a son of God, be led by the Spirit to believe in Jesus? If he is led by the Spirit then he is already a son of God. ONLY sons of God, Christians, are led by the Holy Spirit.

The point is, the lost aren’t led by the Spirit of God because they don’t understand anything the Spirit of God has to say (1 Corinthians 2:14) and they never will unless God quickens their dead spirit FIRST. And if God quickens their dead spirit, they’re not lost any more, they’re saved.

Bottom Line: (with emphasis) those who are led by the Spirit of God ARE sons of God. So if a man “made a decision for Christ” it’s because God saved him first. His decision was the result of salvation, not the cause.

Jesus raises up EVERY man God draws (John 6:44), NOT every man who “accepts” the drawing.
