Bible truth #207 - Acts 2:46-47

46  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

This one should be very simple to understand but I’m sure there will be those who add to the Scripture. Who was it that was adding to their number daily people being saved?

The LORD added to their number. These people were not joining in a synergistic effort with God for salvation. God was saving people, period. You will see nothing anywhere in Scripture that God added to their number because they accepted Christ, or because they believed in Jesus, or because they repented, or by any other “work” man does. Why won’t you find it? Because it is not in the Bible! We are saved because of nothing we do (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 3:5).

Just as God opened Lydia’s heart in Acts 16:14, God was opening the hearts of these people too, people He saved. Only THEN could they believe or repent. The apostles weren’t opening the hearts of the people the Lord was saving and these people weren’t opening their own heart - and God wasn’t opening everybody’s heart either. He was opening the hearts of those He chose in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).

Once the Lord opens someone’s heart, they WILL come to Christ (John 6:37).
